Retention of ERA Overdenture Attachments Before and After Fatigue Loading

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to estimate and compare the retentive values of the different color-coded ERA attachment and the effect of various levels of fatigue loading on the retention.
The force required to separate each female from its corresponding male was determined 5 times by a digital force gauge at the baseline and after every 100 cycles. ERA attachment was cycled in a specially designed fatigue? machine and up to 5,500 cycles. The retentive values for. different color coded ERA attachment were statistically analyzed by Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS).

The obtained results were as follows

1. Before 500 cycles, there was a little difference in retentive values between white and orange males, but there was- no difference after 500 cycles.
2. Gray males showed more retentive value than white males, also after 1,000 cycles there was difference in retentive values between orange and gray males.
3. After 2,000 cycles, there was an overall 60% retention loss, and after 5,500 cycles, there was an overall 80% retention loss.
